Overview

The Roxby Council is the authority responsible for the management of the Municipality of Roxby Downs and in accordance with the provisions of the acts and relevant legislation it is an administered Council with its Administrator being a State Government appointment.

Roxby Council operates differently to other Local Government areas you may have lived in. The Council operates a wide range of municipal services including roads, streets, footpaths, parks and gardens and waste management.

The Council also operates various sport and recreactional facilities including the Cultural and Leisure Centre, swimming pools, community ovals and associated buildings. What sets this Council apart is that it also operates seperate Electricity (Roxby Power) and Water (Roxby Water) authorities including associated infrastructure.

Council also contracts out major services including horticulture and waste management.

The most significant point of differences is that the Council does not have elected members. An appointed Administrator performs all the funtions of Council and acts as both Mayor and Chief Executive Officer.

The Council delivers and supports significant community development activities including establishing independantly community owned and managed media (The Monitor Newspaper and RoxFM Community Radio) and te Community Board and associated community forums.

Our Logos

In May 2010 Council launched a new set of corporate logos. The logos were designed by local graphic artist Susie Smith who was given a brief to create a fresh vibrant modern look that refected our community.

The Roxby Council Logo has a colour palette that reflects the colours of the red sands of Roxby Downs and the ever present Australian outback sun. The graphic element of the sun also depicts a friendly waving hand symbolic of the close-knit, welcoming community that is Roxby Downs. The logo also depicts the Whenan Shaft Head Frame representing major local industry and the Sturt Desert Pea often present in our landscape.

In contrast the Roxby Power Logo represents the cogs of power whilst the Roxby Water Logo has the swirl blue water to represent water supply and sewerage disposal.

These distinctive logos will be gradually phased in during 2011.
