The Environment Forum was established in September 2005 as a subcommittee of the Roxby Downs Community Board. The forum is made up of representatives from Council, BHP Billiton and members of the community. The group works together to develop strategies and projects that progress the community vision.
The forum is currently lobbying for kerbside recycling and is hosting the Outback Smart Environment Program. Run by volunteers, the Outback Smart Environment Program offers free energy assessments for households and community groups. The forum has also campaigned to reduce cigarette butt litter and adopted a stretch of road on Olympic Way under the KESAB Road Watch Program.
In 2008 the Roxby Downs Environment Forum won an SA Great Regional Award for Sustainability.
The award recognised the forum's achievements in establishing regular town clean up days and encouraging community participation and education.
The forum is led by a group of likeminded volunteers who are dedicated and enthusiastic about our town and the environment. The forum is an excellent way for community members to voice their concerns about the current status quo and strive to continuously improve the world in which we all live.
The forum meets once a month, depending on the availability of its volunteers. Meetings normally run for an hour and are held at the Roxby Downs Council Boardroom or the Dunes Café and occasionally at the local tavern.
Anyone is welcome to attend the forum's monthly meetings - for meeting dates, check out The Monitor Newspaper.
